Bought this for my 5 y/o who also loves tutus. It's a story that both kids and parents will like and relate too. Nancy has too much stuff, but wants more. My favorite part though is when Nancy wants the same thing her friend does, and decides to let her friend have it because she realizes she has so much already. It's a concept that's hard to teach kids so it was a really nice talking point.

I decided on books for my nieces birthday this year. She just turned 3 and has a love for books. I chose this one because it has a nice little story yet it is a level 1 reader. I have a feeling she will be a early reader and these types of books are just perfect for that. The book is a nice size she can hold it herself while it's being read to or you can grab it and go. It also had very nice pictures. Plus who doesn't love Fancy Nancy she's one funny girl!

we love all things fancy nancy. I was pleased to see these books in my daughters reading level however this book is not easy to read and is not in "I can read level 1". basically the same as a normal fancy nancy book but in the I can read level 1 book. very disappointed

This was a "best buy"! Excellent information on history, culture and social customs. Truly made a difference in the quality of my visit, which was fabulous, by the way. I highly recommend this to anyone traveling to Ghana for the first time.

My son used this on his trip to Ghana. Said it was very useful for an overview of the country and a cultural understanding.

Much smaller and more concise than the Bradt guide to GHANA. But indeed, "the essential guide to customs & culture". I highlighted insights on almost every page. Very practical, easy to read, and small enough to pack.

It explains every eventuality that a tourist could encounter when they visit Ghana. I especially love the pre Modern and Modern history in the beginnings the book. I would recommend this book to any one interested in Africa and Ghana culture. The quick and a to the point understanding of the people.

I have traveled in Ghana numerous times and was looking for a book that I could share with Learning Abroad students. After some of the comments about accommodations of slavery, I just couldn't trust the rest of the book.

It is a perfect shortly and precisely described introduction to Ghana and its culture. I'm moving there in a few days and for me it was a perfect beforehand introduction - on the basis of the you can go experience it for yourself!

Goldie Vance kicks another mystery's butt! Rich kids, racing, sabatoge, & family drama fuel another great mystery that doesn't stand a chance against Goldie's badass detective skills. I'm also loving the relationship between Goldie & Diane; they are just too cute & perfect together 😍But by the end of this one it looks like Goldie may have earned herself a dangerous ongoing enemy who loves a grudge...time to read some more & see what happens.

I loved the enemies to reluctant allies thing this arc has going on - Goldie is hired by her nemesis Sugar Maple (!) to help her figure out who is trying to sabotage her. Goldie and her girlfriend Diane continue to be freaking adorable. This comic is so fun!

I've loved Goldie Vance from the start. She's the Nancy Drew of my adulthood. She's nothing like Nancy Drew, but she is a spunky and optimistic junior detective who is beloved by her friends and family. A lot of my favorite characters, like Cheryl, the future astronaut, appear in this volume.The volume starts off with a parting of ways with Goldie's girlfriend, the classy and fashionable Diane. Goldie hops on her bike, and seconds later is nearly run over by a speeding car. She gets out of the accident alive, but her bike is totaled. Serendipitously, her arch-nemesis, Sugar Maple shows up and asks for her help. She thinks someone is out to sabotage her in the next car race, and needs Goldie to sniff out who it is. In exchange, Sugar will give Goldie pick of the litter at Hermit's Used cars. Goldie jumps at the chance to get the car she's been eyeing.Over the course of the volume, Sugar and Goldie butt heads. After all, they're both amazing drivers and on completely opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to privilege and socioeconomic class. Lee speaks from the heart and soul to share with us that Everything that we are experiencing - emotionally, spiritually, physically have a role and place in creation. His words are so fluid and very easy to understand, while narrating rather complex topics that shed light on our hidden fears of own successes and potentials. There are applicable exercises in here that can be done anywhere. I've read it out loud on the train, in bed, at work, while waiting for my coffee.. - because that is how accessible And very straight forward they are! I can pronounce and read all the words, no jargons. The only challenge was/is myself - to bring my full self here and with the content. I dove right into an activity which I initially enjoyed so much and even made an artwork alongside it - List 50 things you love about yourself. After reading and connecting with the chapter, I realized how most of it was what was convenient for me because others could also benefit from them, ...and little did I actually fully embrace them. The book, in just a few chapters opened up many blocks that I'd stuffed away while living in our fast culture. And wow, did my artmaking of self love suddenly become a giant piece to work through.... yay! ...nay.... but really, yay!!! Shadow work is the real deal.Lee demonstrates that Self-love truly is a practice, and easily misinterpreted when we are so caught up... boundaries was another thing that this book showed me I had been neglecting for myself, and holding myself accountable for taking Good care and a Good look at myself.This is not an easy read, while it is a simple and very accessible read.. because Lee and his channeled messages from the Z's Will tap into your heart deeply. The first time I read this, as a school assignment, more than 50 years ago, I accepted it as little more than a nice story. Yes, this is a work of fiction but the fiction exists only in terms of the specific dates, names and places. Everything, which occurs, in this book, really happened, commonly, in our country’s 17th through 19th century histories. Unfortunately, most of our public grammar schools, even most of our public high schools, still teach history as little more than a series of unrelated, unconnected dates, places and names, to be committed to memory. No connections are made, to the circumstances, causes or conditions, which surrounded the people and places or generated the actions. It’s not until one gets into undergrad school that one has evan a small chance of understanding history, in the related-circumstances or bigger picture senses. This book is an excellent introduction, for youngsters, to understand how and why some things occurred, not just that they happened in an apparent vacuum. While our Native American tribes had absolutely no comprehension of the concepts of DNA, RNA or heredity, they knew, from the first-hand results of their continuous inbreeding, that they needed diversity, from outside their limited circle, to keep their groups functional and competitive, with the other tribes. Theft/adoption, of women of child-bearing ages and children, from other tribes or societal groups, was their way of exercising their sole ability to cope with those diversity needs. This novel explains these things, at a level compatible with tweens and early teens, without making it seem like they’re receiving a history lesson.

Conrad Richter spins a powerful tale in a short time. His writing style reminds me of Richard Connell ("The Most Dangerous Game") in that he can deliver so much with so few words.This is as much about the collision of vastly different cultures as it is about a boy caught between them. John Butler, the son of a prominent Pennsylvania frontier family was kidnapped as a child by Delaware Indians during a massacre; Indians who were seeing their homeland usurped by white settlers and were making a last stand against them.The Indians brought up the boy as an Indian, giving him the name True Son; his own acceptance of the new way of life began to grow and deepen within him, so that when he was brought back to his own family eleven years later, he had formed distinct opinions of his own against the whites; in his own mind, he was not White, but Indian. He loved and appreciated all things Indian; the forests, the rivers, the animals and birds of the woods; the religion of the Great Spirit. Richter's descriptive passages delve deep into the psyche of a youth torn by opposing forces between two worlds, while one single world is the one he has accepted as his. As his birth family struggles to reclaim him, it drives all of them against each other, in a fierce battle of wills that none of them will truly triumph over when all is said and done.Another excellent novel with a similar, more modern theme regarding a childhood friendship between two boys,one white,one red,until adulthood intervenes,is "Crazy Weather" by Charles McNichols.Another Conrad Richter tale I highly recommend is "Sea of Grass" which is also about the frontier, (New Mexico) but with an entirely different context. "Sea of Grass" and "The Light in the Forest" are both slim volumes, but with a lot in between the pages.

Conrad Richter paints a masterpiece with mere words. This is a most beautiful story. I want to read everything he has written. I'm starting with The Trees and am not disappointed. He creates characters and scenes that live and breathe.

Perhaps somewhat dated in terms of its handling... but much has happened which has changed the way we think since the 60s... This book was well suited for me as a budding adolescent, and it still touches me in my late 60s... I believe that I described the book as 'Provocative' when I was 12 years old.

This is a typical Conrad Richter book, with skillfully-rendered dialects and a plot that rings true, coming from the eastern United States a couple of centuries ago. Without spoiling it, Richter deals with the hardships of repatriated Indian captives. Personally, I liked his "Awakening Land" trilogy more, but this was an authentic read.

I liked this book because it resists the temptation to Idealize the American Indian. The main character was taken as a youth by indians from his family then forced to return years later. He does not get along well with his real family He does not admire or understand his father who as a pale sickly older man lives his life indoors working as an accountant. He does not like living indoors. The only one he bonds with is his much younger brother. He runs away from home back to his indian family but on a raid with them he is horrified when they kill the children of the settlers they attack. He is left between two worlds unable to adapt to civilized life and unable to live with the murderers he finds himself among.

Great book, bought it since it was one of my favorites when I was young. Arrived in excellent condition.

Beautifully written, A Light In the Forest is the tale of a young boy torn between worlds, fiercely prejudiced against each other. True Son, a fifteen year old white boy was taken in by a Native American tribe when he was only four years old, and sense then his hate for the white people has grown stronger and stronger. But now that he is forced to return to his original family, he learns that his " Delaware " people are just as flawed as any culture or civilization. This book is both a coming of age story as well as a tale that blurs the lines between right and wrong. A surprising page turner, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

The owner of the Lockheed Electra Jr. featured on the cover had contacted me for more information about the picture, and at the time I didn't even know it had been licensed for use in the book.I'm a aviation buff, and love photographing aircraft whenever I get the chance. This book a great addition to any coffee table and I agree with most of their selections. There is some really great photography in this book and nice writeups for each one, even though in some cases the information can seem a bit brief, especially for iconic aircraft like the P-51 Mustang.Overall it's well worth the money and would make a great gift to any aviation lover.

Bought this book for my older brother, who was a soldier in the late 1950's and who later worked for an airplane manufacturing company. He has always been fascinated by airplanes, so this gift was very appreciated by him!

This collection of beautiful planes and information about them will appeal to anyone who loves planes. It is a lovely book to give as a gift.

This is an excellent book about WWII submarine warfare in the Pacific, focussing on three particularly successful submarines. I give it only four stars because of two main shortcomings. The first is organizational. The organization of the book is sometimes confusing. Each boat was active for slightly different time intervals, and it might have been difficult to describe what each was doing at roughly the same time. Instead, the author chose to hopscotch among the three, chapter by chapter which has the effect of making it difficult to keep the chronologies straight while reading. I would have preferred it if the author had simply divided the book into three sections and within each section describe the experience of each boat completely. A fourth section, which in fact is properly treated separately, deals with the aftermath regarding how the war ended and the experiences of U.S. prisoners of war in Japanese prison camps.The second shortcoming is that the scandalously defective torpedoes that plagued our submarines during the first half of the war is mentioned, but the subject is not given nearly the treatment the situation deserves. How could American submarines have been ordered to sea with torpedoes that were never tested to see if they actually worked? That in fact is what happened. Many or most ran deeper than they were set and did not explode when they hit a ship because the firing pins bent from the impact. The book states that many American lives were lost as a consequence, and some skippers even resigned from the Navy as as result of being disbelieved by the Navy's Bureau of Ordnance that the attacks had been perfect and the torpedoes were at fault.

By following the exploits of three submarines and their rotating crews as they fought it out against the Japanese during World War Two, the author does a masterful job in writing an account of the "war below" in the Pacific, from Pearl Harbor to Tokyo Bay.I find in this book the perfect balance between different components: introducing the reader to different characters (the subs' skippers) and their leadership philosophies without getting bogged down in biographical details; providing context by chronicling the main war developments without getting lost in yet another narration of the Pacific campaign; and giving an idea of how life was on a submarine without getting lost in technicalities.The accounts of the combat patrols give the reader a sense of what it was like, what the challenges were, and how bravely these sailors did their duty.Bravo

Mediocre writing, superficial details of many, many sailors (and captains) gets tedious. Odd jumps to overviews of the total Pacific war. Better to devote a chapter to the overall role of submarines in the campaign, and to a description of the Pacific campaign itself. There was tremendous improvement in submarine design, and technology, during the war, but this is never covered. Indeed, the central issue of malfunctioning torpedoes is alluded to time and again. A detailed chapter on how the problems were solved would have been a great addition, particularly since the torpedoes deficiencies affected careers, the demise of the Tang, etc. Indeed, toward the end, there is a 'throwaway' reference to the 'removal' of the anti-circling device from the torpedo that sank the Tang, but nowhere else in the book is its invention or installation ever mentioned. This is 'journeyman' history; more in depth development of fewer individual captains and sailors would have been useful. The details of each attack on a merchant ship, by each submarine, quickly get tedious. The author touches dozens of central submarine warfare issues, often with only a sentence, or paragraph, and then moves on. The final 10% of the book, focused on the horrors of treatment and torture of captured servicemen is gratuitous, repetitive, and suggests an author who wasn't quite sure what he wanted his book to be about.

Action packed, if uneven account of the submarine warfare and early life in the silent service in the wake of Pearl Harbor. The story telling is good, but the toggling back and forth between the three different subs and their respective commanders did not always flow; it's a minor criticism. Scott is able to illustrate the strategy and tactics of American sub warfare over the course of the war; the focus on sinking enemy shipping, the move away from escort, recon, and rescue, and the faulty torpedo controversy that plagued sub skippers. Overall, a nice piece of work and exciting read.
