I stumbled across Sarah on Instagram several years ago and immediately started following her there and on YouTube. She has some videos of doodles with circles that caught the attention of my daughter and I. One was Disney Princesses and the other was Harry Potter characters. We’ve been huge fans ever since.The Art of Doodle Words is a fantastic book. It’s full of numerous, creative ideas. The instructions are easy to follow and come with a visual as well as a detailed description. The book begins with a sweet intro, then briefly suggests preferred tools and basic techniques. It’s then broken down into two part. Part one is all about the different types of doodle letters. Block, Bubble, Overlapping, Pillar and Serif are just a few that are included. It gives you the full alphabet, then shows some inspiration on how you can use that type of lettering to create words. Part two is all about fun doodle words. Here you will find how to spell the word dog using bones and a paw print or how to include lettering with cute doodles to spell fun sayings. There are several fun tutorials to try out. I think this would make a fantastic gift for anyone interested in hand lettering or bullet journaling. It’s definitely easy enough for preteens to understand as well!! I will definitely order a copy to add to our drawing tutorials.
This book provides step by step illustrations on how to take a word from simple printed letters to a fun work of art.​I loved this book! It shows the way to create words that show what they mean in their letters. The break down is such that even a person with absolutely no drawing experience can follow the instructions. The doodles are cute, fun, and colorful. I can’t explain who much this book excited me to try my hand at creative doodling.I received an eBook copy from NetGalley for an honest review.
When I doodle, I tend to just scribble some messy design, but this book takes the doodles to a whole new level! The first part of the book shows you how to make different kinds of letters and how to spice them up with just a little bit of something extra, liked a dashes or dots. I doodled along with her as I read about the different techniques and thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked the washi tape, stapled, and stitched up designs. The second part of the book takes words and shows you how to draw them step by step. I would have been afraid to try this in the past, but I did some of these words as well. I can't draw a fox, but I did like a lot of the designs. I liked dream, embrace, pizza, castle, pirate, and boots the best.

Starting with the alphabet, the author provides examples of the letters written in different styles such as cursive, block, and slanted. The author goes on to give examples on some pages of how to use these alphabets, by transforming them into words that illustrate, such as decorating the word sand to resemble that element.The section on doodle words is more interactive, with step-by-step instruction on how to transform words with depictions of letters as an item or object. With brightly colored pages and many examples to get readers inspired, The Art of Doodle Words is a great drawing instruction book, especially for kids. I do wish it was a little longer, with more step-by-step instructions, but the book is a good starting off point for readers looking to be creative.
What a fun way to practice your doodling skills and stretch your creativity muscles! The reader is shown a variety of script styles and then lead, step by step, through numerous examples by the author, supplying plenty of inspiration for their own doodle words. Each example leaves space for the reader to try their hand at their own doodle word. The Art of Doodle Words has to be one of the most fun art books I’ve read in quite some time. The artwork is cute and silly, but also had some interesting points and applications. All of the artwork was done by Sarah Alberto, a famous YouTube artist. In this book she shows you many of her techniques she uses, and ultimately she teaches how to combine words with doodles and sayings. This guide book is broken down into two main parts. Part I is all about doodle letters, from simple letters to curly script. Part II is about doodle words, words using a theme and combined together by a doodle. At the end of the second segment is a sampling of Sarah Alberto’s works. This was a really useful guide. It gave some ideas and instructions, but it didn’t hold your hand through the process. I consider that a good thing, because how else can you jump start your creativity? Mostly I just enjoyed seeing Sarah Alberto’s working process and the completed pieces.
