About the Author
In the early 1940s, a loving father crafted a small blue wooden engine for his son, Christopher. The stories that this father, Reverend W. Awdry, made up to accompany this wonderful toy were first published in 1945. He continued to create new adventures and characters until 1972, when he retired from writing. Reverend Awdry died in 1997 at the age of 85.Richard Courtney is a published illustrator known for his colorful work in the children’s book series Thomas & Friends.Tommy Stubbs is an illustrator. His works include The Birthday Express!, A Crack in the Track, and Blue Mountain Mystery.

This is a nice book. The reason I gave it three stars is because I was looking for a Thomas book with new stories for my boys, and when I looked at the product description for this, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that we hadn't read any of them before. However, descriptions can be deceiving. For some strange reason, several of the same stories from this collection are circulating out there under different titles. "Lost at Sea" is also known as "Misty Island Rescue." "Danger at the Dieselworks" is also "Day of the Diesels" and "The Lost Crown of Sodor" is also "The King of the Railway". There may be other duplicates as well but this was very disappointing to me because we already have these stories. Hopefully this helps some of you avoid the same mistake.
This book is a great collection for Thomas fans. Every page has full color illustrations on it to go with the text. The begging of the book also a has a table of contents so you can quickly find a story.The edges of the pages are gold, which makes this book look extra special.With all that said, I am giving this 3 stars because the first book I ordered came damaged. The inside cover was ripped near the binding. I ordered a replacement.... And that book came with a tear starting in the exact same place, plus damaged and bent corners from Amazon's poor packaging. Both books came in boxes with no wrapping or padding around the books. I'm not sure if the damage is because these books have a weak spot, or because they were damaged during shipment. Disappointing none the less.UPDATE: I've knocked off a star because the binding on this book is extremely cheap and does not hold up whatsoever. Within 2 months - we've read this book several - the inner seam on the binding has completely split open and exposed the cheap cardboard underneath. The corners of the book also peel and have the cardboard sticking out. This book would be wonderful if the binding were better quality.
Our two year old is really into trains, and definitely likes videos and stories that feature Thomas & Friends. He also enjoys reading stories before bedtime and we like to have stories that aren't too short, but long enough that it doesn't feel like you're reading a novel. This book was selected as Christmas present for him, as it has quite a few different stories.The cover of the Thomas & Friends Story Time Collection is very well put together and the pages are printed on good paper stock, meaning they're not easily torn when turning during normal use by a toddler. Every page of the book is delightfully illustrated with the adventures of Thomas & Friends, giving your little one plenty of eye candy for their train obsessed mind. There are plenty of stories to keep your child's attention and are pleasant to read, around two week's worth of bedtime stories if you read one per night.If your little one likes trains, Thomas & Friends and/or enjoys reading, or having it read to them, stories with beautifully illustrated pages, then this is a good buy for your bookcase.If you found this review "Helpful", please click the button below.
We love this book. But the binding is complete trash. I am usually very swift to give 5 stars for any purchase, but something just has to be said about this binding. We have two boys, ages 2 and 3.5, who absolutely love to have the stories in this book read to them nightly. They didn't really handle the book themselves, yet the entire inside of the book separated from the cover in less than a month. I threw the cover away and we kept reading it until pages started falling out. I would have thought maybe we just had a defective one except that we are now on our second copy with the exact same problem within a week. We also have a friend we gave one to as a gift and he has gone through three of this same book (on a side note, it was great for keeping that kid on the potty during potty training). Again, the book itself is great for kids. I just wish the book could last longer than a few weeks or whatever before completely falling apart.
I think this might be some type of counterfit book or something from China? The stories are very similar to other books we have but the writing is off. When you're reading sentences you have to stop and pause because the sentences aren't structured correctly and it makes it hard to read. The quslity of the paper and cover is good. But something about the way the books read is just not right.
This collection of Thomas stories has a wide variety from older stories to some of the newer stories that are in video/tv format. A few of the stories even feature Lady (and another female train character or two) which is nice for little girls interested in trains. The paper in the book is a little thin and ripped somewhat easily under my toddler's enthusiastic page-turning, but it's nothing a little tape couldn't fix. This is a nice compilation of different Thomas stories from different eras.
My son requires a Thomas and Friends story every night before bed. This is a big book and really nice. Thick, high quality paper bonded with a thick, high quality cover; very attractive. Just note! If your kid is like mine and wants a bedtime story, know that the stories in this collection are long. Too long for bedtime, in my opinion. Also, the last three or so stories are just adapted from recent movies, so they are not new stories for my kid who has seen all of the Thomas shows. Too bad, the illustrations are beautiful and vibrant.
My son is obsessed. He will sit and read this to himself for hours, instead of watching the episodes on TV (granted we don't do a lot of screen time). If I read the story about Thomas's snowplow, though....The only issue I have is that the pages tear pretty easily. Our copy is already covered in tape after about a month, but I'll re-order if it totally falls apart because it's so beloved in our home already.
