Being a 43 year college student is daunting having been 25 years since school. I need all the help I can get.I just wish we could still put out books in groups on our kindle like I was able in 2011. This book was published in 1910. Treat it as a historical document, not as a modern reference. It is a good read if you already master modern English and feel curious about the evolution of the language over the past hundred years.
The book is well written, and pretty much an excellent guide. However, it was written a long time ago, and I believe that there have been some changes in the rules of grammar. However, the rules of punctuation are an excellent guide, which I use periodically.
While this book is described by some as "old", and even by a few as "boring", it is a great and valuable reference for those who sincerely want to learn the correct way to use the English language. Granted the art of correct spelling, grammar, speech, and composition has largely (and most unfortunately) disappeared from our culture, but the most successful among us will be those who can properly and effectively compose and present our thoughts... verbally and on paper. Those who choose to be left behind in this facet of communication do so at their own risk.This is a free book, but worth its (published and printed) weight in gold.
I thought my grammar and punctuation was top shelf seeing how I have a college education; then I read this!This is by far my favorite e-book I have read to date and I have shared it with my wife and colleagues and I get positive responses every time.
It was free and included some information that I hadn't heard since grade school relating to the definition of direct objects, tenses, moods, etc.A bit outdated (it referenced "thee" and "thou"), but the basics are there.Very short, which meant I was breezing through at a good pace. This was a great way to brush up on terminology.
Some people would find this boring. I, however, found it fascinating how little I retained from high school English class! I've been reading this book on my Verizon Razr Kindle app when time allows. I feel everyone has room for improvement and this is just one way I work on myself. Personally, I think this book should be read by anyone who has been out of high school or college for several years. Just my opinion.
