This brand new novel would make a great place for you to spend the long, hot weekend. Another fast-paced stand-alone thriller from JT Ellison with extreme sports, cutting edge medicine, brand new DNA technology, two favorite locations, mental illness up close and personal, complicated friendship, unspeakable heartache, secrets (dark secrets), and so many candidates for the killer! It doesn’t come with a warning, though, so I will tell you. Don’t start this as a casual read - there are no exit ramps once you start this ride - you’ll want to race to the end.
Tear Me Apart is a very appropriate title for this book. It tells the story of an Olympic downhill skiing hopeful who crashes and severely breaks her leg. During the surgery, it’s discovered she has leukemia and eventually needs a stem cell transplant. It continues with the search for a donor and the realization that her family life is not what it seems. The intensity of the emotions that are dealt with rises with each discovery. The meltdown of one of the characters was very well thought out. She received one piece of bad news after the other and slowly felt like she was losing everything. The psychological impact on the character seemed to be accurately written to me. I thoroughly loved it and gave it 5 stars.
The first third of the book was such a humble that I almost have up on it. There were too many characters (if you can call letters from unknown people characters) and too much jumping around in time and, as a result, too much confusion. I think the book might have been helped by focusing on Monday and her story in the beginning and bringing the rest of it a little later on. Also, I found the mother and, later, the father very unlikable. The book did get better after the first third although the last fourth for a bit tedious. So a generous 3.5 for a book I was excited to read but, in the end, pretty disappointed by its flaws.
The first thing you need to know is this book will keep you up reading and will interfer with your life! I fould myself thinking about this book and wondering what would come next while I was out to dinner.No, I'm not going to give you a blub of the book, if you want that go read the Amazon blurb. If you like mysteries and want to be confounded by the twists and turns than this book is for you. It has more false trails than a sly fox could lay trying to get away from the hounds.We have a champion skier, perfect parents, two teens on a mental hospital for trying to commit suicide and one of them is a murderer, then last but not least we have a English professor never giving up on finding his daughter that was kidnapped when she was a few days old and finding the his wife's murderer. It's a wild ride finding out how all these people fit and who is the bad guy.You will not be sorry if you buy this book.

Lies, betrayals and murder find their way into the families surrounding Mindy.Never disappointed in a J.T.Ellison book.
I enjoyed reading many of JT Ellison’s detective Taylor Jackson books. I am a mystery-police procedural aficionado, who also reads suspense-thrillers, so I looked forward to reading this book.The premise is good, the execution terrible. Overly long and repetitive at nearly FIVE HUNDRED pages, three storylines, illogical scenarios, flashbacks galore, and caricatured characters suitable for a parody. PLUS eye-rolling hospital-based events and dubious medical situations. Are there isolation rooms that lock from the inside? With no way for security or police to open the door?By about 25% read, I posited the possible sequence of events, twists, turns, and side plots; and by 35% the crimes and culprit(s). Then I had to slog through the rest of the book. I tried listening to the Audible version, which featured very good voice actors, but they could not overcome the problems with the storyline, characters and the so-called twists.The ending was bathetic.
J.T. Ellison has written a lot of good books, but this twisty psychological/domestic/medical mystery-thriller is probably her best yet. The characters, whether likable or not, are all interesting, realistic people (plus there's a lovable dog), there are numerous secrets to be uncovered, and the conclusion is quite a shock. I did have a general idea where the story was going, but the author's excellent writing and storytelling made the book almost impossible to put down, and there were many surprising details and twists. This outstanding novel is not to be missed.
This book started off as an overly dramatic story that I almost gave up on, but it came together and gradually morphed into an engrossing book. Not very realistic in so many ways, but a great book for a long airplane ride. Don't look for realistic, believable characters or plotting, but a book to sit back and enjoy without too much thinking.
